China Files Lawsuit Against EU’s Anti-Subsidy Measures for Electric Vehicles at WTO

China’s Ministry of Commerce has responded to reporters’ questions regarding the country’s lawsuit against the European Union’s anti-subsidy measures for electric vehicles at the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Background of the Lawsuit

China has filed a lawsuit against the EU’s final anti-subsidy measures for electric vehicles, citing a lack of factual and legal basis, as well as a violation of WTO rules.

Reasons Behind the Lawsuit

China had previously filed a lawsuit against the EU’s preliminary anti-subsidy ruling on electric vehicles. Despite objections from various parties, including EU member state governments, the industry, and the public, the EU issued final measures and imposed high countervailing duties on Chinese electric vehicles. China strongly opposes this decision and has decided to take further action to safeguard the development interests of the electric vehicle industry and global green transformation cooperation.

China’s Stance on the Issue

China believes that the EU’s final countervailing measures are an abuse of trade remedy measures and constitute trade protectionism in the name of countervailing. China urges the European side to acknowledge its mistakes, correct its illegal practices, and work together to maintain the stability of the global electric vehicle industry chain and supply chain, as well as the overall situation of China-EU economic and trade cooperation.
