Response to Joint Military Exercises
Beijing has strongly urged the Philippines to cease provocative actions and misinformation campaigns in the South China Sea, particularly in response to recent joint military exercises conducted with partners outside the region. Jiang Bin, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defense, addressed media inquiries on November 7, 2025, regarding these exercises.
According to Jiang, defense and security cooperation between nations should not jeopardize the interests of third parties or destabilize regional peace. He asserted that escalating tensions stem from the Philippines’ repeated engagement of external forces in activities that infringe upon China’s claims.
Ancient Claims and Sovereignty
China maintains that the historical context and legal basis of its claims in the South China Sea are clear and rejects what it considers to be false narratives and distortions of facts. The spokesperson emphasized China’s firm commitment to safeguarding its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.
Jiang specifically condemned attempts to portray China as the aggressor, stating that Beijing will not tolerate “blackmail” tactics or allow provocations from those “stirring up troubles in collusion with outside powers.”
Commitment to Regional Stability
Despite the strong rebuke, China reaffirmed its dedication to pursuing peace, stability, and growth through regional coordination.Jiang urged the Philippines to refrain from actions that undermine collaborative efforts toward these goals.
The statement underscores China’s ongoing efforts to assert its position in the South China Sea while together advocating for a diplomatic resolution to the complex territorial disputes.
