China begins construction of full-scale follow-up project from South to North (01 min 01 sec)

[장모청(張墨成), 신화통신 기자] “I am currently inside a huge tunnel located in Baokang, Hubei Province. The follow-up project to the South Water North River Project has entered the full construction phase. The aim of this new project is to build the Three Gorges Reservoir. of water to the Hanjiang River, a tributary of the Changjiang River. This is a new step to provide more water to dry northern China and improve the national water network.”

Construction of the follow-up project began in July 2022.

It is expected to take nine years to complete.

[리잔징(李占京), 중국 남수북조(南水北調)그룹 한장수자원망건설개발회사 관계자] “The project started the full construction phase about 10 days ago. By the end of last year, the main tunnel in the exit section was built over 1,000 meters long.”

Over the past nine years, more than 67 billion ㎥ of water has been moved north through the South Water North Flow Project.

As a result, more than 176 million people benefited.
