China’s Commitment to Reform and Opening Up: A New Era of Development
From July 15 to 18, 2024, the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was successfully held in Beijing. This meeting marked a significant milestone in China’s development, as it adopted the “Decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Further Tightening Reform in All Areas to Promote Chinese Modernization.”
Reform and opening up is a crucial strategy for China’s development, enabling the country to catch up significantly and follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. This meeting serves as an important window for the world to understand China’s high-quality development and high-level openness to the outside world, demonstrating China’s unwavering commitment to the international community.
China’s Economic Resilience and Dynamism
In 2024, China’s economy has shown remarkable resilience, promise, and dynamism. As the world’s second-largest consumer market, China has leveraged its mega-market, developed new types of consumption, and driven the transformation of traditional industries into high-end, intelligent, and green industries.
China’s GDP totaled 61.7 trillion RMB (approximately 7.8 trillion Euro) in the first half of the year, representing a 5% year-on-year increase. Investment in high-tech industries grew by 10.6% year-on-year, while the added value of high-tech manufacturing industries increased by 8.7% year-on-year. These new high-quality productive forces have injected strong momentum into China’s economic upgrading and high-quality development.
International Confidence in China’s Economic Prospects
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently revised China’s economic growth forecast for 2024 to 5%, reflecting the country’s bright economic prospects. Other international banking institutions, such as the World Bank, Morgan Stanley, and UBS, have also revised their forecasts upward, expressing confidence in China’s economic growth.
China’s Openness and Contribution to Global Development
An open China is a significant driver of global development and prosperity. In the first half of 2024, China’s total imports and exports exceeded a historical level, reaching 21.17 trillion yuan, a 6.1% year-on-year increase. This has played a positive role in maintaining the stability of the international industrial chain and supply chain.
China’s imports and exports to countries along the Belt and Road Initiative reached 10.03 trillion yuan, a 7.2% increase. As the world’s second-largest economy, China’s contribution to global economic growth has remained around 30% in recent years. China has also been the world’s largest merchandise trader for seven consecutive years and among the top three global outward investment sources for 11 consecutive years.
Deepening China-Burkina Faso Relations
China and Burkina Faso have continuously deepened their mutual trust, strengthened economic and personal exchanges, and established fruitful practical cooperation in various fields. In 2023, the total volume of imports and exports between the two countries exceeded 590 million US dollars, maintaining a positive growth trend.
The Bobo-Dioulasso University Hospital, funded by China, is nearing completion, while the construction of the Ziniaré photovoltaic power plant will start soon. The “Smart Burkina” project is progressing in an orderly and significant manner. Over 4,000 Burkinabés have traveled to China with Chinese visas for business and study, and more Chinese companies have established themselves in Burkina Faso.
China-Africa Cooperation and the Upcoming FOCAC Summit
