A new brunch destination is coming to Berkeley on Oct. 15, 2026, taking over a familiar neighborhood space on North Shattuck Avenue. Shattuck & Butter will hold its soft opening in the Epicurious Garden location previously occupied by Eggy’s Neighborhood Kitchen, berkeleyside.org reported. Eggy’s Neighborhood Kitchen has since moved further south on Shattuck Avenue.
Shattuck and Butter Opens on North Shattuck Avenue
The upcoming restaurant is a project rooted in the surrounding blocks. The people behind Shattuck & Butter live directly in the neighborhood and decided to open the space to connect deeper with their community. The operators describe themselves on their website as a tight-knit group of cooks and four neighbors who love to feed and be fed. They note that they live right around the corner and want to get more involved with the local area.
East Bay Restaurant Openings Bring New Cafes and Takeout Options
The East Bay food scene also welcomed several other openings across Albany, Oakland, and Pleasanton. In Albany, a new cafe opened near Solano Avenue at 816 San Pablo Ave. on Oct. 3, serving Ethiopian coffees, pastries, and other snacks. Gold Bean Cafe expanded its Latin-inspired coffee operations to Pleasanton on Oct. 10 at 440 Main St., bringing its known iced churro and flan flavored drinks to a new downtown storefront following locations in Berkeley and San Leandro. In Uptown Oakland, a takeout window called Little Gem soft opened on Oct. 4 at 372 24th St., focusing on fresh salads and bowls in the former Drink Thicc location.
