A Chinese student at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, has been found guilty of threatening a person who posted leaflets supporting democracy in the Asian country, authorities said.

According to the SCMP on the 26th, on October 22nd last year, a leaflet was posted near the Berklee College of Music campus with the title ‘Chinese too, join us’ and phrases like “We want freedom” and “We support democracy.”.

In response, Mr. Woo (26), a Chinese student who attends this school, reported the incident to China’s Ministry of Public Security, threatening to “cut off that person’s hand.”

They also asked to know where the person lived and also revealed the person’s email address.

The person who posted the flyer is a permanent resident of the United States from China and has family members still living there, the prosecutor’s office said.

Mr Woo, who was brought to trial for this incident, was found guilty on a charge of stalking and intimidation.

Each charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison or a fine of $250,000 (334 million won).

“No one in this country should be harassed with threats of violence or cyberstalking for expressing their political views,” Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy said in a statement.

He said, “Mr. Wu has now been found guilty of illegal acts of threatening a fellow student at Berklee College of Music who is critical of the Chinese government. This type of behavior is completely unacceptable.”
