On November 1, the Chinese figure skating training team held an open training at the Beijing Capital Gymnasium An Xiangyi, Dai David, Yang Yixi/Deng Shunyang and other top players made their first performance in preparation for the China World Figure Skating Grand Prix. National Championships, and preparation for the World Championships, the Milan Winter Olympics and other competitions to prepare.

Team leader Yao Jia bluntly stated that after the Beijing Winter Olympics, the Chinese team’s once-dominant event, pair skating, was in a quandary. This season, the young combination Yang Yixi/Deng Shunyang has taken the lead.

Yao Jia said Yang Yixi/Deng Shunyang changed from technical athletes to figure skaters by choosing cross-border and cross-sports. “Figure skating requires childish skills, and players usually start learning it when they are four or five years old. Both of them are about ten years later than others, but they work very hard and has made rapid progress since switching to the sport in 2018.”

Young women’s singles player An Xiangyi won the adult category of the 2024 Asian Figure Skating Open, surpassing the lowest technical score at the World Championships and helping China’s women’s singles return to the World Championships. An Xiangyi said she reached the lowest technical score in the World Championships earlier than expected, and “the burden will be less in subsequent games.”

The Chinese team has performed well in the youth group this season. Currently, the Chinese team has participated in 5 Youth Grand Prix events and received medals in each event. Yao Jia said: “The Milan circuit is very difficult for us, but the athletes and coaches are working hard to achieve good results. From the youth Grand Prix events, we have talents in reserve, and we hope the the young players can continue to stand on the field.

The Harbin Asian Winter Games is an important competition task for the Chinese team this season. Yao Jia said that after the Cup of China, the team members will participate in the national championships, and the list of participants for the Asian Winter Games will be determined afterwards. Currently, Chinese team men’s singles and ice dance have certain advantages in Asia.

The Asian Winter Games figure skating competition will be held at the Heilongjiang Ice Training Center, where men’s singles star Jin Boyang trained since he was a child.
