Hangzhou, October 1 – The shooting event at the Hangzhou Asian Games concluded on October 1 with the Chinese shooting team dominating the competition, clinching an impressive 16 gold medals. The highlight of the final day was the multi-directional flying saucer event, which resulted in four gold medals being awarded, with the Chinese team securing three of them.
Chinese Women’s Team Shatters World Record
The women’s multi-directional UFO team competition witnessed a stellar performance by the Chinese trio, Wu Cuicui, Zhang Xinqiu, and Li Qingnian, who shattered the previous world record of 354 with an outstanding total score of 357. In the individual finals, Zhang Xinqiu achieved a remarkable feat, scoring 47 out of 50 targets, earning herself the championship title and successfully defending her crown. Wu Cuicui bagged the silver medal with 43 points, while Dmitryenko from Kazakhstan settled for the bronze.
“Today, I dared to take the lead,” expressed Zhang Xinqiu, reflecting on her record-breaking achievement. Despite the challenging competition, she maintained her confidence, relentlessly hitting target after target to ultimately secure the coveted gold medal.
Surprise Triumph for Chinese Men’s Team
The men’s multi-directional flying saucer event surprised spectators, as the Chinese team triumphed in the team competition, outscoring the Qatar team by a single point (354 to 353) to claim the bronze medal. The gold and silver medals went to India and Kuwait respectively.
In the men’s multi-directional individual qualification competition, Chinese shooter Qi Ying, along with five other participants, battled it out for the final spot in the finals. Qi Ying exhibited his determination in the extra round, narrowly defeating Kazakhstan’s Aisarbayev with a score of 18:17, securing his place in the finals.
Although Qi Ying struggled at the beginning of the final, missing the target twice in the first three shots, he resolutely adjusted his approach and struck an impressive streak of 23 consecutive hits, propelling him into the championship ranks. In an intense showdown against renowned Kuwaiti player Talal Rashidi, Qi Ying’s tenacity prevailed as he emerged victorious with a final score of 46, edging out Rashidi’s 45.

In the women’s multi-directional UFO team competition, three players from the Chinese team, Wu Cuicui, Zhang Xinqiu and Li Qingnian, performed well and finally broke the original world record of 354 with a total score of 357. In the finals individual, Zhang Xinqiu scored 47 out of 50 targets, winning the championship and successfully defending his title. Wu Cuicui, who shot 43, won the silver medal, and Dmitryenko of Kazakhstan won the bronze medal.

In the men’s multi-directional flying saucer event, the Chinese team had a surprise. In the team competition, the Chinese team scored 354, overwhelming the Qatar team with 353, and won the bronze medal. India and Kuwait won the gold and silver medals respectively.
In the men’s multi-directional individual qualification competition, Chinese team players Qi Ying and five other players entered the playoffs to compete for the last spot in the finals.
