TORONTO – HS Hyosung Vice Chairman Cho Hyun-sang addressed global cooperation strategies in his role as ABAC (APEC Business Advisory Council) chairman during the recent ABAC meeting in Toronto.
Cho presided over the second ABAC meeting of 2025,held from April 23-26,according too HS Hyosung. The discussions centered on navigating the complexities of international trade.
The meeting saw robust debate regarding international trade challenges. Amidst growing uncertainty in the global trade landscape,impacting the Asia-Pacific economy and business operations,Cho facilitated discussions aimed at delivering a unified message to the 21 member economies.
Emphasizing the importance of sustained prosperity through free and open trade, Cho proposed expanding the scope of the APEC card as a practical measure to mitigate global trade uncertainties.
in related efforts, Cho visited Washington, D.C., as part of a U.S.-ROK economic mission last December and February,engaging with U.S. political and financial leaders. He highlighted South Korea’s significant investments in the United States, contributing to the supply chains of key U.S. industries. Cho advocated for the inclusion of the service sector in trade balance assessments, alongside investment and raw material imports.
During the Toronto meeting, Cho hosted key events, including a welcome dinner and gala, and presided over major conferences, including the opening and closing sessions.These activities served to promote the Korean economy on an international stage. He also promoted Korea’s agenda, including advancements in AI and digital transformation, and encouraged participation in the APEC summit scheduled for late October in Gyeongju.
Looking ahead, Cho is scheduled to participate in the third and fourth ABAC meetings in Vietnam and Busan in july and october, respectively. The collective insights gathered from these ABAC meetings will be presented to the leaders of the 21 member economies, with the aim of influencing policy decisions.
