In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Cho Young-wook of Kim Cheon Sangmu continues to make waves in the K-League 2. Having already achieved a career milestone this season with double-digit goals, Cho Young-wook now sets his sights on becoming the league’s top scorer.

In their recent home match against Seongnam FC at the Gimcheon Sports Complex, Kim Cheon Sangmu emerged victorious with a resounding 4-0 win. It was Cho Young-wook’s winning goal that secured their fifth consecutive home victory.

Under the guidance of coach Jeong Jeong-yong, who himself achieved great success in the FIFA U-20 World Cup, Cho Young-wook has showcased his exceptional goal-scoring ability. Remarkably, he has scored in seven consecutive matches, starting from the 17th round against Ansan Greeners and culminating in the 23rd round against Gyeongnam FC.

Although his streak was momentarily halted in the previous game against FC Anyang, coach Jeong Jeong-yong provided words of encouragement and urged him to start anew. “You have to start over. I still have a chance, so I have to score goals from today. Opportunities will come,” Coach Jeong affirmed, providing comfort to Cho Young-wook.

A Display of Unyielding Confidence

Cho Young-wook did not disappoint, proving himself worthy of Coach Jeong’s trust. His scoring instincts were reignited in the match against Seongnam FC. He confidently converted a penalty in the 32nd minute of the first half, capturing his 11th goal of the season. Just four minutes later, he demonstrated his skillful ball control and unleashed a powerful shot, aiming for multiple goals.

Early in the second half, Cho Young-wook selflessly provided an assist to his teammate Kang Hyeon-muk, resulting in another goal for Kim Cheon Sangmu. His lightning-fast attack from the left side allowed Kang Hyeon-muk to swiftly capitalize on the opportunity, further extending Kim Cheon’s lead.

Cho Young-wook’s impact extended beyond his goal-scoring prowess. His dynamic presence across the entire pitch posed a constant threat to the opposition, often attracting intense scrutiny from defenders. Although he briefly left the field due to a minor injury, he quickly returned, resuming his leadership role in the team’s attacking plays. Playing the full 90 minutes, Cho Young-wook flawlessly executed his mission and secured three crucial points for Gimcheon.

The Race for the Top Scorer

As the 25th round looms, Cho Young-wook finds himself tied with Gyeongnam’s Glayson and Jeonnam’s Valdivia at 11 goals each. Alongside Gyeongnam’s Won Ki-jong, who takes the lead in the league’s scoring charts among foreign players, Cho Young-wook represents the pride of native strikers. With 13 games left to play, a fierce competition is anticipated for the coveted top scorer position in the K-League 2.

This season, Cho Young-wook performs excellently on the stage of K-League 2. Under coach Jeong Jeong-yong, who made the last myth together in the FIFA U-20 World Cup four years in back, he has first class goal making power. Starting with the match against Ansan Greeners in the 17th round and ending with the match against Gyeongnam FC in the 23rd round, he scored in 7 consecutive matches.

In the previous game against FC Anyang, the record was broken without hitting the net, but coach Jeong Jeong-yong consoled him saying he could start afresh. Coach Jeong, who met with reporters before the game, said, “You have to start over. I still have a chance, so I have to score goals from today. Opportunities will come,” he said, comforting Jo Young-wook.

Cho Young-wook, who received Director Jeong’s trust, did not betray that trust. The scoring instinct, which came after the game break, was activated again in the home room. He scored his 11th goal in the league without missing a penalty in the 32nd minute of the first half. In a clash with goalkeeper Choi Pil-soo, he calmly attempted a kick and rattled the net. Immediately in the 36th minute of the first half, he aimed for multiple goals with a shot after reckless dribbling.

In the 10th minute of the second half, Jo Young-wook made an extra goal for Kim Cheon in a selfless manner. Cho Young-wook, who attacked Seongnam’s left side at high speed, made a ‘quick delivery’ to Kang Hyeon-muk, who penetrated into the penalty box. Kang Hyeon-mook finished Jo Young-wook’s cross with one touch, and Kim Cheon ran further.

In this game, Cho Young-wook showed a great contribution to the development of the attack by moving around the whole stadium as well as the point of attack. Because he boasted of such vigorous activity, he was subjected to intense checks by his opponent. He was out of the field for a while due to a minor injury, but quickly returned to lead the attack. Cho Young-wook, who played full time, completed his mission perfectly today and delivered 3 points to Gimcheon.

From the 25th round, Cho Young-wook competes for the top scorer with 11 goals with Gyeongnam Glayson and Jeonnam Valdivia. Together with Gyeongnam Won Ki-jong, who tops the score list with foreign players, he saves the pride of a native striker. With 13 games remaining, fierce competition is expected for the top striker position in the K-League 2.
