Three-term MP Choo Kyung-ho (Daegu Dalseong), who served as the first deputy prime minister for economic affairs under the Yoon Seok-yeol government, was elected the new leader of the People Power Party on the 9th.

That day at 2pm the People Power Party held a general meeting of elected officials and held an election to elect the leader of the next plan. Of the 108 people elected in the 22nd general elections, 102 participated in the vote.

In the election, together with Congressman Chu, Congressman Lee Jong-bae (4th term, Chungju, North Chungcheong Province) and Song Seok-jun (3rd term, Icheon, Gyeonggi) voted to run. Representative Chu received the majority of votes in the first round, receiving 70 votes, and was elected without a runoff. He was followed by Rep. Lee Jong-bae with 21 votes and Rep. Song Seok-jun with 11 votes.

Rep. Chu is an orthodox economic bureaucrat who served as secretary for finance and economics in the Blue House Senior Economic Bureau and then as deputy minister of strategy, director of the Office of National Security and minister of strategy, and is considered an “economic” expert within the party.
