On the 17th, Gwangju University professor Yun Mo, who was accused of participating in the ‘Chosun TV re-approval review rating manipulation’, was arrested on the 17th.

Judge Lim Ki-hwan of the North Seoul District Court issued an arrest warrant for Professor Yoon on the same day, saying, “There is concern about fleeing and destroying evidence.” Professor Yoon is accused of treating TV Chosun’s final evaluation score low during TV Chosun’s 2020 re-approval review process, as requested by Director Yang Mo and Manager Cha Mo of the Broadcast Policy Office of the Korea Communications Commission.

At that time, TV Chosun received a total score of 653.39, exceeding the re-approval standard (more than 650 points out of 1000). However, it received a ‘conditional re-approval’ with a score of 104.15 out of 210 in the ‘realisation of public responsibility and fairness of broadcasting and the need for local, social and cultural needs’, which are the main examination items. If the score is less than 50% in the key review items, it is subject to ‘conditional re-approval’ or ‘rejection of re-approval’.

Previously, on the 31st of last month, the prosecution arrested and charged Director Cha Mo of the Korea Communications Commission, who was accused of obstructing business by encouraging Chosun TV to manipulate the review score during the re-approval review, and on the 1st of this month, Director Yang Mo is also arrested and investigated. In addition, on the 16th, the office and residence of Han Sang-hyeok, chairman of the Korean Communications Commission, was searched and seized.
