The recently delayed film promises to reunite numerous franchise heroes, but it’s Hemsworth’s reflective video that has ignited speculation.
Earlier this week, Hemsworth shared a video montage highlighting his journey as Thor, from the original 2011 film to 2022’s love & Thunder. while the video itself isn’t new, resurfacing just before Doomsday has fans dissecting its description for clues.
The actor’s words, reflecting on his 15 years as the God of Thunder, have led some to believe that Avengers: Doomsday could mark the end of Thor’s journey. As one of the few remaining original Avengers, and now a father, some believe Thor is due for a heroic sacrifice, similar to Tony Stark and natasha Romanoff.
“Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Yoru passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me. Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable.. Next up, doomsday!”
Adding fuel to the fire is the rumored casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. The idea of Thor facing a villainous version of his former teammate has fans bracing for a perhaps devastating blow.
Hemsworth has not commented on the video’s interpretation. The fate of Thor remains a mystery until Doomsday hits theaters. Even if Thor meets his end, the MCU has a history of bringing back characters in unexpected ways, leaving the door open for Hemsworth’s return in future projects.
