On the 23rd, the Nomination Management Committee of the People Power Party decided to preferentially recommend (strategic nomination) Ham Woon-kyung, chairman of the Comrades Democratic Movement, to Mapo-eul, Seoul, where Democratic Party lawmaker Chung is currently serving Cheong-rae. The Missions Committee also decided to re-discuss former MP Kim Hyun-ah, whose nomination decision had been suspended by the Emergency Response Committee the previous day.

Chairman of the Party People’s Power Committee Chung Young-hwan held a briefing with General Secretary Jang Dong-hyuk at the headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul this morning and announced the results of the Committee’s 12th meeting, including the above.

President Chung introduced President Ham as “a person who formed the Comrades Association of the Democratic Movement and who is dedicated to resolving the harmful effects of activist politics” and added: “The citizens of Mapo-eul, Seoul, they wonder who really contributed to democratization in this general election and they wonder who has false activist privileges.” “I expect them to make a wise choice about who is in power,” he said.

Additionally, the diplomatic committee decided to re-examine former MP Kim, whose emergency committee chairman Han Dong-hoon had ordered a re-examination the previous day. President Jeong said, “We respect the views of the emergency committee, and through more in-depth discussions, we will recommend an appropriate candidate who can win.”

A day earlier, the emergency committee had rejected the resolution on former MP Kim’s recommendation to cut off water in Goyangjeong, Gyeonggi Province, and requested a re-discussion with the diplomatic committee. Former MP Kim is being investigated by the prosecution for allegedly taking 40 million won in January last year while he was party council chairman of Goyang-jeong’s Gyeonggi People Power Party and receiving envelopes of money on behalf of management commissions from key legislators for whom he had the right to nominate. In August of the same year, the party’s ethics committee suspended former MP Kim for three months for violating the party’s ethical rules on maintaining dignity and prohibiting abuse of status and status.

Meanwhile, the Missions Committee has decided to disqualify a candidate for the Incheon region primaries. In the case of the candidate in question, it was confirmed that the National Election Commission lodged a complaint with the prosecutor’s office on suspicion of illegal campaigning and the Civil Service Commission also found there to be considerable objectivity. President Chung stressed: “Our diplomatic mission will continue to make firm and timely judgments on illegal election campaigns.”
