Cifuentes Resigns as QPR Manager After 20 Months

Marti Cifuentes has resigned from his position as Queens Park Rangers (QPR) manager after 20 months. The 42-year-old’s departure follows a period of gardening leave that began April 29, amid speculation linking him to West Bromwich Albion. West Brom ultimately hired Ryan Mason.
QPR CEO Christian Nourry acknowledged Cifuentes’ positive impact, particularly highlighting his role in securing the club’s Championship status in both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. Cifuentes led the team to a 15th-place finish last season.
“As we now move forwards, I would like to thank Martí wholeheartedly for having a positive impact during his two years here.He did a fantastic job to help us remain in the division when he first came in under difficult circumstances, and he worked hard to repeat that again in 2024/25,” Nourry saeid.
Cifuentes expressed his gratitude in an Instagram post, noting his pride in the team’s fighting spirit and their collective effort to ensure the club’s continued presence in the Championship.
“I am proud to have been part of this club and to have contributed, alongside a fantastic team of players and coaching staff, to ensuring the club’s continued presence in the Championship over the last few seasons. It wasn’t always easy,but we did it the way great things are achieved: with hard work,honesty and togetherness. We saw the development of many young players, and we had some amazing nights under the lights of Loftus road – remembering Stan Bowles being one that sticks with me,” Cifuentes said.
