cirebon,Indonesia – The Cirebon Regency Government has declared an Extraordinary Event (KLB) status in response too a concerning rise in Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases, tragically marked by the deaths of two residents. This decisive action underscores the growing public health challenge posed by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.
Dengue Fever outbreak: A Regional concern
As of the 31st week of 2025, Cirebon Regency has recorded 786 DHF cases, impacting nearly all districts within the region. While this represents a decrease from the 1,833 cases reported during the same period in 2024, health officials emphasize that the current numbers remain alarmingly high and necessitate immediate, thorough action.
“The number reported to us was 786 cases, with two fatalities. Although there’s been a decline compared to last year, this figure is still significant and demands our continued vigilance,” stated Eni Suhaeni, head of the Cirebon District health Office, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
Government Response and Community Mobilization
To combat the outbreak, the Cirebon Regent has issued a Regent Regulation focused on controlling the spread of DHF.This regulation is being supported by detailed technical instructions distributed to all levels of local government, emphasizing aggressive public awareness campaigns regarding mosquito nest eradication (PSN).
A large-scale PSN movement is scheduled for August 14, 2025, uniting village governments, health cadres, and residents in a coordinated effort to eliminate breeding grounds. This initiative aims to foster a sense of collective responsibility and empower communities to take proactive steps.
Beyond Fogging: A Holistic Approach to Dengue Control
Health officials are stressing that relying solely on fogging is insufficient to effectively control the dengue outbreak. While fogging can provide temporary relief, the most lasting solution lies in disrupting the mosquito life cycle through consistent and thorough nest cleaning.
“We urge all residents to actively maintain the cleanliness of their homes and surrounding environments. Let’s deny mosquitoes the opportunity to breed. Eliminate standing water, securely cover water storage containers, and dispose of any discarded items that can collect rainwater,” eni Suhaeni urged.
Protecting Your Family: Practical Steps You Can Take
Dengue fever is a serious, potentially life-threatening illness. Here’s what you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones:
Eliminate Standing Water: Regularly empty and clean flower vases, pet bowls, gutters, and any other containers that can hold water.
Cover water Storage: Ensure all water storage containers are tightly covered to prevent mosquito access. Screen Windows and Doors: Install or repair screens on windows and doors to keep mosquitoes out of your home.
Wear Protective Clothing: When outdoors, especially during peak mosquito activity times (dawn and dusk), wear long sleeves, long pants, and socks. Use Insect Repellent: Apply insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus to exposed skin.
Recognise the Symptoms: Be aware of the symptoms of dengue fever, which include high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, rash, and bleeding. seek medical attention immediately if you suspect you have dengue fever.
A Call for Collective Action
The Cirebon Regency government is confident that through collaborative efforts, the number of DHF cases can be significantly reduced, preventing further loss of life.
“We are hopeful that these concrete steps will lead to a reduction in the emergency status of DHF in Cirebon Regency,” Eni Suhaeni concluded. “The health and well-being of our community depend on our collective commitment to fighting this disease.”
