Claremont Little League Kicks Off 67th Season

Some 493 players across 41 teams took to the field at College Park on February 21st to celebrate the opening of the 67th season of Claremont Little League. The event, bathed in brilliant blue skies, drew more than 200 volunteer coaches, along with numerous family members and caregivers, marking a vibrant start to the spring season.

The ceremony was led by Claremont Little League President Scott Smith and featured a parade of teams. Players had the opportunity to wave their team flags, with Atreyu Slaten of the Los Angeles Dodgers Majors team prominently displaying his team’s colors. A special moment occurred as players in their final year of Little League gathered at the pitcher’s mound to recite the league pledge one last time.

Adding to the festive atmosphere was Maverick, the mascot from the LA Dodgers’ minor league affiliate, the Ontario Tower Buzzers, who engaged with players, offering high fives. Players also sported the number 67 on their jerseys, a commemorative gesture recognizing the league’s 67 years of service to the community.

Claremont Mayor Jennifer Stark was among the speakers at the opening day ceremony, sharing remarks with attendees. The annual first pitches were thrown by longtime snack bar managers, Kim and Kevin Patterson. Lucca Avilez-Echeverria performed the The Star-Spangled Banner, and raffle winners were announced.

Tower Buzzers General Manager Allan Benavides also delivered remarks at the event. Claremont Vice Mayor Ed Reece, Council member Corey Calaycay, City Manager Adam Pirrie, and Community Services Director Jeremy Swan were also in attendance, demonstrating strong community support for the league.

The Claremont Little League season is now underway, offering a platform for young athletes to develop their skills and enjoy the camaraderie of team sports. Those interested in learning more can visit claremontlittleleague.org.
