Coordination Key to Effective Mine Clearance in Yemen

Mr. Osama Bin Yusuf Al-Gosaibi, Director General of the “Massam” Mine Clearance Project – Yemen, emphasized the importance of coordination between mine clearance programs in the Republic of Yemen to achieve maximum benefits and release critical resources.

This came during his recent meeting with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Mine Action Adviser, Charles Frisby, at the project headquarters in Aden, where they discussed the future of demining operations in the country, challenges, and issues faced by demining teams.

UN Representatives Visit “Masam” Project Headquarters

Julian Harness, UN Resident Representative for Humanitarian Action in Yemen, and Charles Frisby visited the “Masam” project headquarters in Aden, where they met with the project’s general manager and viewed the project’s photo gallery, showcasing mines and explosive devices planted by Houthi militias.

Director General Concludes Visit to Aden and West Coast

The Director General of the “Massam” project concluded a visit to the project work in Aden and the West Coast, where he met with project officials and chaired an extended meeting with the leaders of the engineering team, Brigadier General Amin Al-Uqaili, and other officials.

The meeting discussed the level of achievement and challenges faced by the field teams and explored solutions to overcome obstacles and ensure continuity of mine clearance operations.

Meeting with Mine Action Coordination Center

The Director General of the “Massam” Mine Clearance Project – Yemen visited the Mine Action Coordination Center in Aden, where he held a meeting with the Centre’s Director, Brigadier General Fadl Gharamah, and reviewed the Centre’s activities in Mine Clearance Program in Free Areas.

He emphasized the determination of the “Masam” project to continue its contribution to strengthening demining programs in Yemen and provide advisory and logistic services.

Award for Humanitarian Efforts

The Development Foundation for Awareness and Media honored Mr. Osama Al-Gosaibi, Director General of “Massam” Mine Clearance Project – Yemen, with the “Development Shield” in appreciation of his great efforts in humanitarian aid and development in Yemen.

The head of the foundation, Mowataz Al-Maisouri, praised the prominent role played by the “Massam” project in removing mines planted by the Houthi militias in various Yemeni regions.
