Bill and Hillary Clinton face contempt charges after refusing to testify for a probe into sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The former US president and ex-Secretary of State, scheduled to give evidence this week, claimed a Republican-controlled committee’s attempts were “legally invalid”.In a letter released on social media, the Democrat couple indicated they would not comply with subpoenas.
They told the chairman of the House oversight committee, Republican representative James Comer, he is on the cusp of a process “literally designed to result in our imprisonment”.”We will forcefully defend ourselves,” wrote the Clintons.
They accused Mr Comer of allowing other former officials to provide written statements about Epstein to the committee, while selectively enforcing subpoenas against them.
