The draw for the league stage (formerly the group stage) in the new edition of the Champions League will take place tonight in Monaco at 19:00 Mecca time, with 36 teams participating.

36 teams, instead of 32, will participate in the competition, aiming to occupy the first eight places in the standings, qualify directly for the eighth final, and the remaining eight pass tickets for the same round will be reserved through playoff matches.

League stages in the next edition include:

  • The 36 teams are divided into 4 tiers according to the European Union classification, with the exception of defending Champions League champions Real Madrid.
  • Each team plays 8 matches against 8 different teams.
  • Each team faces two different teams from each tier, one match at home and the other away.
  • The teams ranked between 9th and 24th will meet in a qualifying play-off in the round of 16.
  • Clubs ranked between 25th and 36th are ultimately eliminated from all continental competitions.
  • In the knockout rounds, the teams meet back-to-back except in the final of one match.

“The Royal” will be placed first in the first pot, regardless of its classification, because each pot will have 9 teams. For example, after the Real Madrid card is drawn, two team cards will be drawn from each of the four pots for a total of 8 teams.

  • England (4): Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa.
  • Spain (4): Real Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Girona, Atletico Madrid.
  • Germany (5): Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart, Bayern Munich, Leipzig, Stuttgart.
  • Italy (5): Inter, Milan, Bologna, Juventus, Atalanta.
  • France (4): Paris St. Germain, Monaco, Brest and Lille.
  • Netherlands (2): Eindhoven, Feyenoord.
  • Portugal (2): Sporting, Benfica.
  • Belgium (1): Club Brugge.
  • Scotland (1): celtic
  • Austria (1): Storm Graz.
  • Ukraine (1): Shakhtar Donetsk.
  • Switzerland (1): Young Boys.
