Averil power, a seasoned advocate for social justice and former Senator, has been appointed as the new Chair of Clúid Housing, Ireland’s largest approved housing body. This appointment signals a new chapter for the organisation as it continues too address the growing housing crisis and champion inclusive communities across the country.
A Champion for vulnerable Communities
Power brings a wealth of experience to the role, stemming from her extensive work in both the political and charitable sectors. She is deeply familiar with the challenges faced by those experiencing housing insecurity,having witnessed firsthand the detrimental impact it has on individuals and families.
“I have also seen through my work as a public representative and charity leader the negative impact lack of a secure home is having on the mental and physical health of children and adults across Ireland,” Power stated, highlighting her commitment to Clúid’s mission.
Her dedication to social justice isn’t new. Power previously served as a Senator from 2011 to 2016, representing the Industrial and Commercial Panel. Before entering the Seanad, she worked as a political advisor to Mary Hanafin. Demonstrating her principles, she later resigned from the Fianna Fáil party in 2015, prioritizing her commitment to her values.
