CME Group to Launch Options on Sector Futures, Real Estate Index

CME group plans to introduce options trading on six E-mini Select Sector futures and the Dow Jones U.S. Real Estate Index futures, pending regulatory approval. The launch is scheduled for Oct. 28.
The new options will cover E-mini S&P Select Sector Stock Energy Index futures, Financial Index futures, Health Care Index futures, Industrial Index futures, Technology Index futures, and Utilities Index futures, along with the Dow Jones U.S. Real Estate Index futures. This expansion provides traders with more tools for sector-specific risk management.
Paul Woolman, global head of equity index products at CME Group, said the options are designed to help clients manage volatility in individual equity sectors, especially given the significant dispersion across sectors this year. He added that both index choice and sector choice are crucial in today’s market.
CME Group reported considerable growth in its existing sector futures product suite, including E-mini Select Sectors Index futures, E-mini Dow Jones Real Estate Index futures, and E-mini Nasdaq Biotech Index futures. Year-to-date average daily volume has reached a record 21,000 contracts, with open interest at a record 267,000 contracts.
“These new options on our liquid sector futures are designed to help clients manage volatility in individual equity sectors, notably amid significant dispersion across sectors this year,” said Paul Woolman, global head of equity index products at CME Group. “In today’s market,not only does index choice matter,but sector choice matters as well.”
Tim brennan, global head of capital markets at S&P Dow Jones Indices, noted that the S&P Select Sector indices and the Dow Jones U.S.Real Estate Index allow market participants to focus on targeted market segments. This focus helps them mitigate risks,navigate volatility,and express their views on specific sectors relative to the broader market.
