Coast Guard Recovers Sacks in Taal Lake – Missing Gambling Groups
Philippine Coast Guard launches Full-Scale Diving Operations in Search for Missing Sabungeros in Taal Lake
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has commenced full-scale diving operations in Taal Lake, marking a significant step in the nearly three-year-long search for missing cockfighting enthusiasts, known locally as sabungeros. The operation, which began on Friday, saw over 30 technical divers deployed to areas identified as potential dumping sites, following a day of initial site assessments.
Divers Recover Additional Sacks from Taal Lake Depths
On the first day of the intensive search, the PCG successfully recovered additional sacks from the bottom of Taal Lake. While the contents of these sacks are yet to be officially confirmed, preliminary facts from the Department of Justice (DOJ) suggests they may have been weighted down with sandbags to ensure they remained submerged on the lakebed.
The renewed efforts are a direct response to claims made by whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan, who alleged that the missing sabungeros were victims of foul play, with their bodies disposed of in the lake.
Initial Survey Yields Potential clues
the diving operations follow a crucial technical survey conducted on thursday. During this preliminary assessment, authorities discovered a white sack containing what appeared to be burnt bones near the shoreline. These remains have been handed over to the police for thorough forensic examination. The goal is to determine if they are human and, crucially, if they can be linked to the missing sabungeros.
Capt. Noemie Cayabyab, PCG spokesperson, confirmed that the three diving teams began their meticulous search as early as 7:45 a.m. Friday, focusing their efforts on areas deemed to have the highest probability of yielding evidence. The PCG remains committed to a thorough and systematic examination to bring closure to the families of the missing individuals.
