Cocktail explosion and shooting in front of Awami League office in Ishwardi

Incidents of cocktail explosions and firing of blank bullets also took place in front of the Awami League party office in Ishwardi, Pabna. This incident took place in Pierpur area of ​​the upazila on Tuesday morning. There were no casualties.

Eyewitnesses said that the BNP leaders and workers were distributing leaflets of boycotting votes as part of the party program at Pierpur intersection of the city. Before this, party supporters were staying at the ward Awami office in the same area to distribute leaflets in the campaign for the ruling Awami League nominated candidate Ghalibur Rahman Sharif.

Eyewitnesses also said that at that time, some workers-supporters of Awami League prevented BNP leaders-workers from distributing leaflets. This led to arguments and arguments between both parties. At one stage, the leaders and activists of BNP were chased away by the leaders and activists of Awami League. After a while, the supporters of BNP gathered at Peerpur intersection and raised slogans against the government and the elections. At one point they left with a few cocktail explosions and a shower of blanks.

On receiving the information, members of the law and order forces including Ishwardi police station reached the spot. After that, Awami League leaders came to the scene and protested to the police. Municipal Jubo League general secretary Ariful Haque Liton blamed BNP in this incident and said, ‘BNP has created fear of people by bringing weapons and firing cocktails. Which is by no means desirable.’

Biplab Kumar Goswami, Additional Superintendent of Police of Ishwardi Circle said, “We have learned that BNP has carried out cocktail explosions and shootings at Peerpur intersection as part of a sabotage plan. We recovered samples of the exploded cocktail and three rounds of shotgun shells from the spot. Police security is being strengthened in the area.’
