COFCO Corporation, a major Chinese state-owned food processing holding company, has agreed to acquire two sugar mills from Bunge, expanding its agricultural and sugar production footprint in Brazil. The transaction is expected to add approximately 700,000 tons of sugar production capacity to COFCO’s Brazilian operations, according to industry reports.

Following the acquisition of the two processing facilities, COFCO’s total annual sugar production in Brazil is projected to reach approximately 2.2 million tons. The deal significantly scales up the company’s industrial capacity within the South American nation’s robust agricultural sector.

Bunge, a global agribusiness and food ingredient company, routinely adjusts its asset portfolio to align with broader corporate strategies. The sale of the two sugar mills represents a strategic shift in its regional processing operations, transferring industrial assets to one of the world’s largest food trading enterprises.

Brazil remains a dominant force in global sugar production and export markets, drawing substantial foreign investment from international commodities firms. State-backed and multinational agribusinesses continue to consolidate processing facilities across key agricultural regions to secure long-term supply chains.

The newly acquired production volume will be integrated directly into COFCO’s existing Brazilian network, enhancing operational efficiencies across its milling and export infrastructure. Market analysts expect the transition of the facilities to proceed following standard regulatory reviews.
