Tyrrelstown, Ireland – A Dublin-based development company formerly controlled by the larkin brothers, known for their involvement with Twinlite developers, has settled a substantial tax debt with Irish authorities. Vieira Ltd., which constructed a large housing estate in Tyrrelstown between 2001 and 2008, reached a €6.7 million settlement earlier this year, resolving a long-standing VAT dispute.
The settlement includes over €2.4 million in under-declared VAT and nearly €3.6 million in interest charges. The company, which went into liquidation in late 2022, had previously faced a €2 million tax bill from the Revenue Commissioners following a High Court case.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts by Irish tax authorities to recover unpaid taxes, particularly from companies involved in large-scale development projects.
Former Fianna Fáil Minister Also Named in Tax Defaulter List
In a separate case,former Fianna Fáil junior minister Ivor Callely has also been named on the latest list of tax defaulters. callely, who served as minister for state in the departments of Health and transport, reached a €172,937 settlement with the Revenue Commissioners.
The settlement stems from under-declared VAT obligations totaling €111,478,along with interest charges and penalties. Callely, who was jailed for five months in 2014 for expenses fraud, is currently listed as a motor vehicle dealer.
