Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris made a ‘surprise’ appearance on NBC’s popular comedy program ‘Saturday Night Live’ (SNL) on the 2nd.

According to the Vice President’s schedule announced by the Vice President’s Office, Vice President Harris was originally scheduled to move to Detroit, Michigan, where the next campaign schedule (3 days) was scheduled, immediately after finishing the campaign in Charlotte, North Carolina, this afternoon, but changed her destination to New York City and broadcasted on NBC in New York. He appeared on SNL, which aired from 11:30 p.m. from headquarters.

Comedian Maya Rudolph, dressed as Vice President Harris, also appeared on the broadcast that day, and Vice President Harris faced Rudolph’s ‘image in the mirror’ concept.

The audience at the scene cheered for more than 20 seconds when Vice President Harris appeared in the same dark suit as Rudolph and with his signature ‘big blue eyes’.

Vice President Harris greeted Rudolph by saying, “Nice to meet you, Kamala,” and the two demonstrated a play on words based on Vice President Harris’s name (Kamala), drawing laughter from the audience.

When Rudolph imitated Vice President Harris’s characteristic facial expression, Vice President Harris responded by saying, “I don’t laugh like that… right?”

Due to her appearance on SNL, Vice President Harris’s arrival in Detroit, her next campaign site, was delayed by several hours until the early morning of the 3rd.

After appearing, Vice President Harris told reporters, “It was fun.”

SNL is famous for its political satire, and prior to the 2008 presidential election, it had separately featured candidates from both parties, former President Barack Obama and former Senator John McCain (deceased).

This was Vice President Harris’ first appearance on SNL, and former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, had appeared on SNL in 2004 before entering politics and in 2015 when he ran for president.

Vice President Harris’ SNL appearance right before the presidential election appears to be part of a vote-gaining strategy to approach young people with a friendly image.
