Neah Evans, a two-time olympic silver medalist, has set her sights on securing a gold medal at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Evans, 34, sees this event as particularly significant, given her personal connection to the city’s 2014 games.
evans, who boasts an notable track cycling career with numerous medals from World, European, and commonwealth competitions, secured silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the women’s team pursuit. She also won silver four years later in the women’s madison, partnering with Elinor Barker.
Although Evans transitioned to full-time cycling in 2017, she emphasizes the pivotal role the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth games played in her athletic journey. The construction of the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome for the 2014 games provided the venue where Evans frist experienced track cycling.
She recalls her initial experience at the velodrome, saying she “was very much not a cyclist” at the time. Evans had never ridden a fixed-gear bike, used clip-in pedals, or been inside a velodrome before that taster session.
“To go back and race it 12 years later, it would be absolutely incredible to come away with a gold medal,” Evans said. “I know it is going to be arduous…but it is a major target for me next season.”
