In this regard, CNN contacted the companies involved in this procedure, those who confirmed that the current president cloned his pet who died in 2017.
Codi Lamb, customer representative for ViaGen Pets, the company in charge of the procedure, explained that “we just started cloning dogs in 2016. We were relatively new to it and we were trying to do it the best way. So somehow we went overboard and got five puppies. Luckily, Milei was happy.”

The dogs are the product of joint work between PerPETuate, a pet genetic preservation laboratory that had Conan’s cells, and ViaGen Pets.

Javier Milei contacted PerPETuate in 2014, sending Conan fabric samples, explained Ron Gillespie, founder of the company.
“Conan was alive at the time. And as I remember, he lived two more years after 2014, until he died. But during that time we kept the cells alive,” he indicated.

To do this, a two-month pregnancy was carried out on a surrogate mother, after which they were sent to ViaGen Pets, who cared for them for another two months before sending them to Argentina.
“At the end of the two months they were already weighing several pounds, so Milei was in a situation where she couldn’t take the five puppies on a plane. That was one of the biggest challenges she had in bringing them to Buenos Aires,” said Gillespie.
Upon arrival in Buenos Aires, Javier Milei baptized one of the puppies Conan, in honor of his deceased dog.
“I called him: Conan, Conan, and this dog responded to that call. He also had a certain behavior. “He liked to watch television just like the other Conan, while the other dogs did not,” the executive added.
However, When the now president of Argentina presented his pets to society in 2018, Conan was not presentwithout specifying whether it was the original Conan or his clone.
Given this, one of the most established doubts in the neighboring country is whether the anarcho-capitalist has five or four dogs, but according to Ron Gillespie, Milei himself assured him that the five dogs are alive.
