Congress Delegation Meets Telangana Governor to Claim Formation of Government

Telangana Election Results: Congress Takes Steps to Form Government

In the aftermath of its resounding victory in the Telangana assembly elections, the Congress party has taken proactive measures to form a government. Following a meeting with Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated that the party, with 65 members in the new House, has laid claim to the formation of the government. Leaders including Telangana PCC President Revanth Reddy and other prominent figures held discussions at Raj Bhavan. In addition, an assembly party meeting is scheduled for Monday at 10 am, with AICC leaders meeting MLAs ahead of the crucial gathering.

Congress secured 64 out of the 119 assembly seats in the elections, while the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) won 39, followed by 8 for the BJP, 7 for AIMIM, and a single seat for CPI. In the wake of the election defeat, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao (KCR) submitted his resignation to Governor Soundararajan.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission suspended Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar for violating the Model Code of Conduct during the elections. The suspension came after DGP Anjani Kumar and State Police Nodal Officer Sanjay Jain, along with Mahesh M. Bhagwat, visited Hyderabad Congress candidate and PCC President Revanth Reddy at his residence.

The Election Commission has sought an explanation from the individuals involved in the meeting with Revanth Reddy. Sources suggest that the DGP’s decision to meet with a prominent election candidate and campaigner for a political party raises questions about ulterior motives.

It remains to be seen how the unfolding events in Telangana will shape the state’s political landscape in the coming days.
