CONNECTION BETWEEN MAHAMAT IDRISS DEBY AND SUCCES MASRA: What about democracy in Chad?

He is undoubtedly one of the emblematic figures of Chadian political life, who disturbed the sleep of the master of N’Djamena. But since October 31, he and the Chadian president have decided to bury the hatchet. Indeed, in the Congolese capital, on October 31, a reconciliation agreement was signed between the president of the Chadian Transition, Mahamat Idriss Deby, and the leader of the opposition, Succès Masra, president of the Les Transformateurs party. For a peaceful continuation of the political transition led by Mahamat Idriss Déby, the main opponent of the Chadian power called, at the end of the meeting in the DRC, for national reconciliation and appeasement. It is in this dynamic and to follow up on the Kinshasa agreement that Succès Masra set foot on the soil of his country on November 3, 2023, after a year of exile. He also spoke with the tenant of the Palais de Toumaï on November 20. This rapprochement between the president of the Les Transformateurs party and the president of the Chadian Transition does not fail to raise questions. Success Has Masra made up his mind? Has he decided to postpone his fight for democracy, justice and development in Chad? Will the president of the Les Transformateurs party still be able to play his role as a counter-power?

It was time for the daughters and sons of Chad to agree to talk to each other

Obviously, with this rapprochement, the aspirations of many Chadians for democracy, alternation and freedom could take a serious blow. In fact, as we know, the son of the late Marshal Idriss Déby never made a secret of his ambitions to remain in power after taking it by force, following the death of his father. Also, through trickery, he managed to attract all the heavyweights of Chadian politics to his camp, while prolonging the transition. Even some rebels have taken the bait… of national reconciliation under the leadership of Deby Jr. Now that there is no longer any real opposition on the other side, the son of the late marshal sees an avenue open before him for the presidential election which is looming on the horizon. In any case, the return of Succès Masra to the country is good news for General Deby who could use him as a major ally. However, the opponent’s decision to bury the hatchet is a sign of realism on his part. Because, tired of war, it was time for the daughters and sons of Chad to agree to talk to each other for a peaceful transition so that the country can return to peace.
