The highly anticipated sequel to the 2005 DC adaptation, “Constantine,” starring Keanu Reeves, may face delays. Actor Peter Stormare revealed that Reeves is reportedly unhappy with the current script. This news casts doubt on the immediate future of Constantine 2, a project involving writer Akiva Goldsman and director Francis Lawrence.
Despite earlier positive updates from Lawrence, who indicated that progress was being made and that Reeves was enthusiastic,Stormare’s comments suggest a potential creative clash. The studio apparently desires a more action-oriented approach, while Reeves seems to prefer a sequel that closely mirrors the tone and style of the original supernatural film.
The original “Constantine,” featuring Reeves as the chain-smoking demonologist John Constantine, grossed nearly $300 million worldwide. The film adapted the “Hellblazer” comics for the big screen, establishing a dedicated fanbase eager for a follow-up. the script dispute raises questions about the direction of the demonologist sequel.
It’s a lot of back and forth, because… I think Keanu [Reeves] which I know pretty good, is not so happy with the scripts… But to do a sequel, the studios want to have, you know, cars flying in the air. They want to have people doing flip-flops and fighting action scenes… I think from Keanu, he wants to do a sequel that is very close to the first one.
What’s next
The future of “Constantine 2” hinges on resolving the script issues and aligning the creative visions of Keanu Reeves and the studio. Further developments are awaited.
