Constellation & Meta: 20-Year Nuclear Energy Deal
Meta Secures 20-Year Clean Energy Deal with Constellation
Constellation Energy and Meta have forged a 20-year power purchase agreement, ensuring Meta’s access to clean, reliable nuclear energy from the Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois. The agreement, announced Tuesday, will supply Meta with over 1,100 megawatts of emissions-free energy, aiding the technology company in achieving its clean energy targets for its central and southern Illinois operations.
The deal, set to commence in June 2027, bolsters the long-term viability of Constellation’s Clinton facility, especially after the expiration of the state’s zero-emission credit program. Moreover, the agreement facilitates a 30-megawatt expansion of the plant’s energy output and safeguards 1,100 local jobs. The agreement is also projected to generate $13.5 million in annual tax revenue and contribute $1 million to local nonprofit organizations over five years.
The agreement underscores the importance of nuclear energy as a reliable source of clean energy and supports the tripling of nuclear energy capacity by 2050.

“We are excited to partner with Constellation and the Clinton community to ensure the long-term operations of the nuclear plant, add new capacity, and help preserve over 1,000 jobs,”
Urvi Parekh, Meta’s Head of Global Energy
Constellation CEO Joe Dominguez expressed pride in the partnership, emphasizing the significance of supporting existing nuclear plants. He noted that preserving and expanding these facilities is crucial for enduring energy progress.

With the agreement in place, Constellation and meta are poised to continue their collaboration, focusing on sustainable energy solutions and community support. The deal serves as a model for corporate investment in existing nuclear infrastructure, highlighting the potential for economic and environmental benefits.
