Contradicting Claims on Harry Kane’s Potential Return to Tottenham

Kane’s Return to Tottenham Unlikely, Contrary to Chairman Levy’s Comments

Speculations surrounding the potential reunion of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min at Tottenham have been put to rest.

Contrary to the recent remarks made by Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy, the British newspaper ‘Daily Mail’ reported on the 21st (Korea time) that there is no direct buy-back clause allowing Tottenham to immediately re-sign Kane.

Chairman Levy, during his attendance at the Tottenham supporters’ forum on the 20th, had previously claimed the club’s right to buy back Kane. However, the ‘Daily Mail’ argues that no such clause exists, stating that Tottenham would need to negotiate a transfer fee with Bayern Munich if they wish to bring back their former player.

While both the club and Kane have remained silent on the matter after Chairman Levy’s comments, the ‘Daily Mail’ emphasizes that as long as Levy remains at Tottenham, Kane’s return seems highly unlikely.

This skepticism is not unfounded, as Kane and Chairman Levy had a falling out over the transfer issue in the past. Two summers ago, a potential move to Manchester City was thwarted due to Levy’s opposition.

Similar complications arose this summer as well. With Kane’s contract set to expire in June next year, Tottenham risked losing him on a free transfer if they didn’t act. Eventually, the transfer to Bayern Munich was completed after Levy agreed to an offer of at least £100 million. However, tensions remained during the negotiations, with disputes over delayed travel arrangements and Kane’s ban from Tottenham’s training ground. It led many to believe that Kane and Chairman Levy had burned bridges beyond repair.

Kane, a living legend at Tottenham, has played 435 games for the club, scoring 280 goals and holding the record for the highest goal tally. He decided to make the move to Bayern Munich in pursuit of winning trophies.

While the door for a return to the English Premier League (EPL) is seemingly open for Kane, with his 213 EPL goals last season surpassing Wayne Rooney’s tally, it remains uncertain if Tottenham will be his destination. The newspaper speculates on other possibilities.

With 260 goals, Alan Shearer stands as the all-time leading scorer in the EPL. Kane, needing an additional 48 goals, could potentially rewrite history. However, with the current circumstances, Tottenham may not be the team he achieves that milestone with.

A claim has been made which directly contradicts Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy’s ‘bomb comment’. Britain’s ‘Daily Mail’ reported on the 21st (Korea time), ‘Contrary to President Levy’s comments, there is no direct buy-back clause that would allow Tottenham to re-sign Kane immediately.’

Chairman Levy attended the Tottenham supporters’ forum on the 20th and revealed that he has the right to buy Kane back. Tottenham’s one-club man Kane moved to German giants Bayern Munich for a transfer fee of 104 million pounds (about 171.5 billion won) in the transfer market last summer.

‘Daily Mail’ said, ‘According to sources, this clause is an option that Tottenham can discuss first if Kane returns to the Premier League. He argued, “There is no fixed buyback amount, so Tottenham must negotiate a transfer fee with Bayern Munich.”

After Chairman Levy’s comments, the Tottenham team and Kane are silent on the details. However, the Daily Mail emphasized that ‘As long as Chairman Levy is at Tottenham, it is unlikely that Kane will return.’

There is a reason. Kane clashed with Chairman Levy over the transfer. Two summers ago, he came close to moving to Manchester City, but it was canceled due to opposition from Chairman Levy.

There were twists and turns this summer too. But Chairman Levy had no choice. Kane, whose contract with Tottenham expires in June next year, could be transferred ‘for free’ if he holds out for another year.

After Chairman Levy offered at least 100 million pounds, the transfer was completed with Bayern Munich. However, during the final negotiation process, anger remained, including the delay in going to Germany and Kane being banned from Tottenham’s training ground. There was also analysis that Kane and Chairman Levy had crossed a bridge of no return.

Kane is Tottenham’s living history. In total, he played in 435 games and scored 280 goals, holding the record for the most goals for Tottenham. Kane scored 5 goals in 6 games after moving to Bayern Munich. He chose to transfer to win the championship.

The door for a return to the English Premier League (EPL) is open. Kane scored 213 EPL goals last season, surpassing Wayne Rooney (208 goals) and moving into second place.

Above him only Shearer, who has scored 260 goals. If another 48 goals are scored, a new history will be opened. Kane also has the most goals in mind.

However, the Daily Mail claim that Tottenham may not be the returning team. Reporter Kim Seong-win newsme@sportschosun.com
