COVID-19 Cases Surge: 302 New Infections and 2 Fatalities This Week – Doctors Sound Alarm as Year-End Approaches
COVID-19 Weekly Situation Report: 36th Week of 2024
The Department of Disease Control has released the weekly situation report for COVID-19, covering the 36th week of 2024, from September 8 to 14, 2024. According to the report, the number of new patients has decreased, with hospitalizations down by 302 compared to the previous week, averaging 43 per day.
The total number of accumulated patients since the beginning of 2024 stands at 38,538, including 181 cases of pneumonia, 73 intubated patients, and 2 deaths among the elderly and 1 person in the age group of 20-49 years old. This brings the total number of deaths since the beginning of 2024 to 203.
This week, COVID-19 has reported 314 additional infected people and 1 death. Doctors are warning about the epidemiological data for August 2024, which shows that flu cases are outperforming COVID-19.
It’s essential to note that out-of-hospital infections (ATK+) are not included in the total number of newly infected people treated in hospitals.
Prof. Dr. Teera Worathanarat, Professor at Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Medicine, shared his analysis on Facebook, stating that hospital admissions decreased slightly by 3.8% compared to the previous week. However, the number of pneumonia patients increased by 6.5%, intubation increased by 4.3%, and deaths increased compared to the previous week.
The estimated number of new infections per day is at least 2,158-2,997. As mentioned earlier, Thailand is still in the grace period, which is expected to arrive around the third week of October if there are no other factors that stimulate it.
It’s crucial to be aware that the baseline after each wave of the epidemic tends to increase continuously, including the number of infections, hospitalizations, pneumonia, and intubation during a long transition period.
Experts advise adjusting daily behavior to be more careful than before, reducing unnecessary risks, protecting oneself properly, and being aware of symptoms. Avoiding close contact with sick people can help reduce the risk of infection and disease.
