A four-year-old boy was attacked by a coyote in Carson, California, on Tuesday, April 1, 2026, while standing in his grandparents’ driveway. The incident, captured on surveillance footage, highlights a growing concern over aggressive coyote behavior in the Los Angeles area.
The child, identified as Solomon, turned four in February and sustained superficial puncture wounds to his leg and torso during the attack, according to reporting from ABC7. His mother, Sarina Donohoo, described the terrifying moment, stating, “All of a sudden, I just hear him screaming and I turned around and I screamed as well because I see the coyote on the top of him.” Donohoo was able to quickly pull her son to safety and run inside the house.
Solomon was treated for his injuries and is not in life-threatening condition. However, the attack has prompted calls for increased safety measures and coyote control in the neighborhood. Stephanie Fields, Solomon’s grandmother, expressed her distress, saying, “It hurts my heart that nothing has been done. That there are not protections in place.”
Pattern of Attacks
Authorities report that this incident is part of a troubling pattern of coyote attacks in Carson and surrounding areas. DNA evidence has linked the coyote involved in Tuesday’s attack to at least one other recent incident in Carson, according to the New York Post. Investigators are also looking into encounters involving a child in Carson and another incident in nearby Gardena.

Last year, a six-year-old boy was bitten by a coyote at a park in Carson and hospitalized with injuries to his head and legs, as reported by ABC7. This latest attack underscores the increasing frequency of aggressive interactions between coyotes and residents.
Wildlife Officials Respond
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife, in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, is actively searching for the coyote responsible for the attack. Wildlife officers are combing through neighborhoods in an effort to capture the animal before it can harm anyone else. According to NBC Los Angeles, the coyote pounced on the child while he was playing with a stick behind his mother’s car.
While coyote sightings are common in the area, officials warn that familiarity can quickly turn dangerous. The grandmother emphasized the speed of the attack, stating, “They only need a split second to attack, so please be aware.”
Residents have expressed frustration with the lack of preventative measures. Donohoo noted that despite previous concerns, “when we call for help, they’re saying they can’t do anything.”
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife urges residents to report any coyote sightings and to take precautions to protect themselves and their pets. More information on coyote safety can be found on their website.
