Cyborg Keypad for PC Gaming: Still Losing?
Azeron Cyborg Compact Review: A Lifeline for a Keyboard/Mouse Noob
This article is a review of the Azeron Cyborg Compact, a customizable keypad aimed at gamers, written by someone who struggles with traditional mouse and keyboard controls. Here’s a breakdown of the key takeaways:
The Problem: The author has always been more cozy with console controllers and has difficulty adapting to the precision and complexity of mouse and keyboard gaming. they hoped the Azeron Cyborg could bridge the gap.
The Azeron Cyborg Compact:
What it is: A highly customizable keypad with adjustable buttons, palm rests, and thumbstick options.
customization: Users can choose colors, palm rest styles, thumbstick styles, and hand orientation (left or right).
Did it work? Not as a magical skill-enhancer, but it did help. It didn’t suddenly make the author a pro gamer, but it made the learning process less daunting. It acted as “floaties” to prevent them from entirely drowning in the complexity.
gameplay Betterment: The author noticed improvement in hitscan characters in Overwatch, specifically with Ana, reducing missed shots.
Comfort Issue: The biggest drawback is the non-adjustable thumbstick on the Compact model. For the author’s smaller hands, the thumbstick is positioned too low, causing hand fatigue after about 90 minutes of play. They suggest a 3D-printable housing to reverse the thumbstick and rocker switch positions.
update (September 2025 - 2 years later):
Continued Satisfaction: The author remains happy with the investment.
Progress: While still struggling with strafing, they’ve improved their gameplay enough to move out of the lowest rank (“Potato 5”).
Solution to Comfort Issue: Azeron’s release of a magnetic tenting stand helped alleviate the thumb strain.
Overall Impression: The Azeron Cyborg Compact is a valuable tool for those who struggle with traditional controls, offering a customizable and more comfortable alternative. While it won’t magically make you a pro gamer, it can considerably ease the learning curve and improve gameplay. The author strongly suggests considering the model with the adjustable thumbstick for optimal comfort.
