National Film Archive Launches Dedicated Channel Featuring Iconic Titles
Movie buffs rejoice! A treasure trove of classic Czech films is now available for free streaming on YouTube thanks to a new channel launched by the National Film Archive.
“Filmová klasika,” which translates to “Film Classics,” offers a curated selection of Czech films spanning from the early 20th century to the post-1948 era. The channel aims to showcase films frequently enough overlooked by mainstream streaming services and television,providing a unique window into Czech cinematic history.
“We want to cater to all types of audiences and generations,” says Michal Bregant, director of the National Film Archive. “That’s why we created this channel, which gives us complete control over the content. We have exciting plans for its future advancement as it gains popularity.”
New full-length films will be added to the channel every Tuesday and Friday, ensuring a steady stream of cinematic gems for viewers to enjoy.
Currently, the channel boasts 11 titles, including beloved classics like “Hrdinný kapitán Korkorán” (Heroic Captain korkorán) from 1934, starring the legendary Vlasta Burian, and ”Klapzubova XI” (Klapzub’s Eleven) from 1938, featuring the iconic Theodor Pištěk.
Viewers can also delve into past dramas like “Bílá tma” (White Darkness) from 1948, based on a true event during the Slovak National Uprising.More recent additions include “Pozor, vizita!” (Beware, a Visit!) from 1981 and “Útěky domů” (Escapes Home) from 1980, starring the renowned Miloš Kopecký and Evald Schorm.
The National Film Archive emphasizes that the channel provides a legal and high-quality platform for accessing these Czech cinematic treasures while also protecting copyright on YouTube.
