dres Tha Beatnik, a central figure in Atlanta’s underground hip-hop culture and a respected cultural ambassador, has died at age 51. News of his passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the hip-hop community.
Dres, whose given name was D.R.E.S.(Divine Real Essence of Sound), died Monday after a prolonged battle with chronic kidney disease. He was a beloved figure known for his contributions to the atlanta music scene.
Killer Mike memorialized Dres Tha Beatnik as a “cornerstone of Atlanta,hip-hop and underground culture,” adding,”You will be mourned forever,loved and cherished always and celebrated in this realm and beyond! We have lost a hero… a leader and library of history.”
