The incident occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. local time when the shooter opened fire from an adjacent building, aiming at the ICE field office. Unlike a detention center, this facility is used for the short-term processing of individuals recently taken into custody by ICE. The victims were reportedly shot in a secured entryway of the building, near a van.
Dallas police confirmed that two individuals were transported to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds, while a third person was pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured during the attack.
“ANTI-ICE” Message and Potential Motive
According to FBI Director Kash Patel, unspent shell casings found at the scene contained the words “ANTI-ICE.” Patel shared a photo of the shell casings on X,noting that an initial review of the evidence suggested an ideological motive behind the attack.
The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement indicating that the suspect fired “indiscriminately” at the ICE building. Joseph Rothrock, special agent-in-charge of the FBI’s Dallas field office, addressed reporters at a news briefing, describing the attack as an “act of targeted violence.”
