Two teachers at a Northern Suburbs high school have been dismissed following investigations into serious allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct dating back to 2024, according to reporting by the Weekend Argus. The Western Cape Education Department confirmed the firings.
Dismissals Follow Whistleblower Disclosures
One of the dismissed educators has also been barred from future employment in the education sector through a Code 90 block placed against their name. Department officials noted that one educator retired while disciplinary proceedings were pending, while another resigned while charges were pending. Two separate assault-related matters remain under active investigation, and disciplinary processes are currently under way regarding the school principal.
Explicit Allegations Prompt Action
The disciplinary actions follow a whistleblower report submitted to multiple organizations, including the South African Human Rights Commission, the Western Cape Education Department, Parents for Equal Education South Africa, and the Department of Social Development.
The whistleblower’s report detailed allegations that a male Business Studies teacher had paid a male learner for sexual favors, and that another male educator was involved in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female learner involving message exchanges and explicit photo sharing.
Department and Activist Responses
Bronagh Hammond, director of communications for the Western Cape Education Department, stated that the agency views allegations of abuse and misconduct with extreme seriousness. Allegations that have been brought to the Department’s attention at the secondary school have been investigated, and disciplinary processes have been instituted where appropriate,
Hammond said, as reported by the Weekend Argus. Hammond added that the department has maintained records indicating various misconduct allegations at the school over several years.
Parents for Equal Education South Africa founder Vanessa Le Roux called for immediate intervention from education authorities. We ask for urgent intervention. Three weeks ago when I brought it to the attention of the department, I asked that they place all implicated on precautionary suspension, in order for a thorough investigation to take place,
Le Roux said, according to the Weekend Argus coverage.

Education officials confirmed that psychosocial support has been made available to affected learners at the school. The institution has also received training regarding the department’s Abuse No More Protocol, which outlines mandatory reporting obligations and safeguarding procedures for school staff.
