Daniel O’Donnell Warns Fans about Convincing Online scams
Irish singing sensation Daniel O’Donnell is urging fans to be vigilant against online scammers impersonating him, warning that they are “so convincing” and have even tricked his own friends.
The 63-year-old star recently discovered a fake Facebook account posing as him, responding to comments on his official page and asking fans to message privately.
Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, O’Donnell stressed that he would never ask fans for money directly. “I don’t charge for meet and greets as I meet peopel after every show,” he explained.”I don’t charge to send somebody a video. So there’s no reason at any time other than getting a ticket to come and see a concert or buy a record, that’s even gone now, or a CD, there’s no other time when you have to pay any money, certainly not directly to me.”

O’Donnell revealed that even a close friend, a nun, had fallen victim to the scam. “The police… got in touch wiht us,” he explained. “I went on WhatsApp to her; she had already given money on an Apple Pay card. It was that I was going to come to visit on Friday, and that I need money to get the ticket, it’s crazy.”
The singer, who hails from County Donegal, Ireland, explained that the scammers frequently enough use phrases and language that seem genuine, making them arduous to detect. “They seem to be able to just use the right words,” he said. “But when you, if you read that, ‘thank you for your love and support’, I would never start a sentence like that.”
Cybersecurity expert Jake moore,who joined O’Donnell on the show,advised viewers to stick to official channels and look for verified accounts with the blue and white tick. “So keep on the official website, but also the official fan page, and it will be authenticated with a tick,” he said. “Now that’s not a fake emoji tick, so make sure you’re looking at the real blue and white one, and then you can trust that if that’s there.”
Moore also urged fans to report any suspicious accounts to Facebook. “It really does help,” he emphasized.
