Danila Patijčuks: Latvia Ready for Nations League Clash Against Cyprus

Latvia enters its final UEFA Nations League fixture of the current cycle against Cyprus on Oct. 5, 2026, holding just one point from its opening two matches in League C. Following a 2-1 defeat to Montenegro on Oct. 2, 2026, and a 2-0 loss in Armenia on Sept. 25, 2026, the national team prepares for the 19:00 kickoff in Cyprus. Midfielder Danila Patijčuks told the Latvian Football Federation press service that the squad has recovered from travel and remains focused on securing a positive result.

Patijčuks Reports Good Energy Ahead of Cyprus Clash

Speaking to the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) ahead of the match, 23-year-old midfielder Danila Patijčuks outlined the team’s mental state after a demanding stretch of fixtures. Patijčuks made his first starting appearance for the national team during the Oct. 2 defeat against Montenegro. Viegls treniņš aizvadīts. Nedaudz paskrējām, paspēlējām ar bumbu. Tas bija tieši tas, kas vajadzīgs pēc šāda pārlidojuma. Taču attaisnojumus nemeklējam.

Patijčuks added that the squad felt good about their performance against Montenegro and aimed to carry that energy forward. Komandā šobrīd ir labs noskaņojums. Aizvadītap, manuprāt, labu spēli pret Melnkalni. Ar labu enerģiju gaidām spēli ar Kipru. Gaidu tajā tikpat labu un agresīvu spēli mūsu izpildījumā. Mums tas padodas, mēs varam spēlēt ar bumbu. Parādījām to mačā pret Melnkalni. Rīt tas jāparāda vēlreiz, the FK Liepāja player noted, according to the LFF.

Cyprus and Latvia Drew Their Previous Meeting

Latvia and Cyprus previously met in this Nations League cycle on Sept. 28, 2026, at the Skonto Stadium, where the match ended in a scoreless 0-0 draw. Cyprus also pressed heavily in that September fixture, hitting the goal frame twice in the closing stages through Janis Kosti and Marcus Edwards to let Latvia escape with a point.

In Group 2 of League C, Montenegro leads the standings with six points from two matches, followed by Armenia with three points. Cyprus sits in third place with one point, while Latvia holds fourth place with one point through two games, having scored zero goals and conceded two across their opening two fixtures.

Fatigue Affects Teams Before Final International Fixture

Both teams face physical fatigue heading into the final fixture of the international break, which marks Latvia’s fourth match in an 11-day span. Patijčuks emphasized that endurance and desire would dictate the outcome in Cyprus. Abas komandas šobrīd ir nogurušas. Abām tā būs šīs nometnes pēdējā spēle, tāpēc svarīga būs enerģija laukumā.

Montenegro’s late win against Armenia on Sept. 28, 2026, leaves the group table tight at the bottom as Latvia seeks its first victory of the League C campaign.
