It was announced that Kazuo Umezu (real name Kazuo Umezu), a manga artist who established the genre of horror manga with his unique style of writing such as “Drifting Classroom” and “Makoto-chan,” passed away on October 28th. Yes, I understand. 88 years old. He was reportedly suffering from stomach cancer and was receiving treatment at a facility.
On the 5th, lawyer Yukio Kikuchi appeared live as a commentator on TBS’s “Gogosuma ~GOGO! Smile~” (Monday-Friday 1:55 p.m.) and talked about his memories of Umezu’s work.
He learned of Umezu’s works before he entered elementary school. “In 1965, there was the “Hebi Onna” series.A little while later, I was in elementary school.” She continued, “The serialization is a girls’ manga.We publish it in Shonen Sunday and Shonen Magazine, and it’s published in Shonen Friend, so I borrowed the manga from girls in my class, and I started writing stories like “Hebi Onna” and “Benigumo.” ‘I was (reading) that with trepidation,” he recalled.
He also revealed that he suffered some trauma as a boy, saying, “When I was in elementary school, I couldn’t go to the bathroom at night. It was scary.”
