The MLB official website reported on August 31 (September 1, Japan time) that Padres pitcher Yu Darvish (38) had a practice pitching session in a real game at the spring training facility in Peoria, Arizona on the 30th, throwing 66 pitches over four innings against 18 Reds minor league players. He is said to be in good physical condition after pitching.
Padres manager Mike Shildt described Darvish’s pitching as “very good,” and said the next step for him will be a rehab appearance against minor league teams.
According to the site, his expected return to the majors is mid-September.
Darvish had been on the restricted list for “personal family reasons” but was placed on the injured list on August 23 in preparation for his return to action. He then took the mound in a simulated game against batters on the 25th, throwing 54 pitches.
