Yogyakarta, Indonesia – August 23, 2025 – Gadjah Mada University (UGM) officials have unequivocally affirmed that Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo, is a graduate of the institution, responding to recent questions regarding the authenticity of his academic credentials.
Addressing Recent Concerns
The confirmation came during a video released by UGM Public Relations on Friday, August 22, 2025, featuring key university leaders addressing the ongoing discussion surrounding President Widodo’s diploma. Participants included UGM Rector Ova Emilia, Deputy Chancellor for Education and Teaching Wening Udasmoro, Dean of the Faculty of forestry Sigit Sunarta, and UGM Spokesman I Made Andi Arsana.
Rector Emilia stated that UGM possesses both data and evidence substantiating President Widodo’s status as an alumnus. ”We have data and evidence that Mr. Joko widodo is officially a graduate of UGM and has also been given a sign of graduation to the person concerned,” she said.
The University’s record-keeping Process
Emilia explained that UGM maintains comprehensive records of its students’ academic journeys and that a diploma is awarded only upon successful completion of all educational requirements.”The diploma is given after the person concerned completes the education process well and in accordance with its requirements.
