Sky Sports Formula 1 lead commentator David Croft has stated that Audi’s reliability issues are becoming a little bit embarrassing following a difficult Miami Grand Prix weekend on May 11, 2026.

The German marque has faced a series of technical setbacks since the start of the 2026 season, hindering the team’s ability to maintain consistency across the opening rounds of the championship.

During the Miami Grand Prix weekend, Nico Hulkenberg missed the sprint race due to a power unit failure. Hulkenberg later retired early from the grand prix, marking another significant reliability failure for the team.

Speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Show, Croft highlighted the frequency of these failures, noting that the team has struggled to even reach the starting grid in several instances.

It’s three out of five races now that they failed to start even before the grand prix, and Hulkenberg retiring. It’s a little bit embarrassing I think for Audi. They will get it right eventually, but they need to start getting it right now because there is potential there, but there’s so many different little things that are going wrong.

Croft further observed that the team’s current trajectory lacks coherence and consistency.

The 2026 season began with contrasting fortunes at the Australian Grand Prix. Gabriel Bortoleto managed to secure two points with a ninth-place finish. In contrast, Hulkenberg’s race concluded before the start when a technical issue forced him to retire on the way to the grid.

Technical difficulties continued during the second round of the season in Shanghai, China. Bortoleto failed to start the race as a result of a hydraulics failure. Hulkenberg was able to finish the Chinese Grand Prix but missed out on points, ending the race in 11th place.

Following a relatively clean performance during the race in Japan, the team’s reliability issues returned during the Miami event.
