D.C. Area Offers Juneteenth events, Summer Solstice Activities

the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia are gearing up for a week filled with Juneteenth celebrations and summer solstice festivities. From festivals and concerts to museum events, there’s something for everyone.
In D.C., the National Archives is displaying the Emancipation Proclamation and General Order No. 3, which effectively announced Juneteenth, from Thursday to Sunday. Timed tickets are available, but not required. A Juneteenth Community festival is also scheduled for Thursday. Several Smithsonian museums will have extended hours for Solstice Saturday. Music enthusiasts can enjoy Rock The Dock at The Wharf on Wednesday, or Fête de la Musique in Georgetown on Saturday.
Maryland offers a Juneteenth Freedom Day Festivity at National Harbor on Thursday. Bethesda will host the scotland Juneteenth Heritage Festival, also on Thursday. Prince George’s County will have a Juneteenth Block Party on Saturday at Prince George’s Community College in Largo. Rockville offers salsa at The Square on Thursdays through August.
Virginia kicks off the week with Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band at Wolf Trap on Tuesday. Alexandria will host Juneteenth events on thursday and Saturday. Reston offers Sunset Concerts on Wednesday and a Beach Boys tribute band on Friday. Tysons will host COPA tysons Soccer Fest on Saturday.
Other events include the FIFA Club World Cup games at Audi Field, the DC Improv open Mic Night, and immersive story experiences at the Folger Shakespeare Library.
