Gotham Meets the Merc: Batman and Deadpool Crossover Comic Announced
Updated May 28, 2025
The Dark Knight and the Merc with a Mouth are joining forces. DC’s Batman will meet Marvel’s Deadpool in a new, two-part comic book crossover event. This marks the first time DC and Marvel have collaborated on a comic project since 2003, promising a unique blend of dark vigilantism and irreverent humor.
The crossover kicks off with Deadpool/Batman issue No. 1, published by Marvel and slated for release on Sept. 17. Zeb Wells, known for his work on Spider-Man, is writing the first issue, with art and cover by Greg Capullo. The story continues in November with Batman/Deadpool issue No. 2, published by DC. Grant Morrison, a critically acclaimed comic writer, is penning the second installment, featuring art by Dan Mora.

According to Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley, the decision to pair Batman and Deadpool was simple. “It was nothing more complicated than that,” Buckley said. “Like, Deadpool hanging out with Batman. There’s a lot of levity to be had in there, a lot of fun. And it would also be a little bit uber violent at the same time.”
Wells added that the dynamic between the characters is a key element of the crossover. “In batman, we’ve found someone who has even less time for Deadpool’s antics than Wolverine,” Wells said. “It’s been a blast letting Deadpool loose in Gotham City and watching what happens.”
A lot of things have to align. Mostly, we plan our editorial schedule pretty far out. DC does their schedule pretty far out. You want to have the right talent involved because with this type of thing, you want to elevate it as much as you can to get people excited.
What’s next
Beyond the main story, both issues will include extra stories and additional DC/Marvel crossovers, details of which remain under wraps. DC and Marvel also plan to release another one-shot crossover in 2026, continuing their renewed collaboration.
