Foreign news agencies are reporting that a teenager died tragically in Butterworth, Penang, Malaysia after being electrocuted while charging his smartphone using a plug on an express bus at the Penang Sentral Bus Terminal.

According to reports, the incident happened around 6:00 PM on November 1. Mohammad Nu Asmawi, 18, was on a tour bus before leaving from Penang to Kuala Lumpur when 10 minutes later, the passenger suddenly… One person told the 36-year-old Driver who screamed Mohammad Nu Asmawi before being found foaming at the mouth. The driver then called an ambulance.

At 6:20 pm, ambulance personnel rushed to the scene and confirmed that the teenager has since died. An autopsy at Hospital Seberang Jaya (HSJ) confirmed that the victim died of electrocution, so the police have classified the case as sudden death.

Investigators found that Mohammad Nu Asmawi was holding his mobile phone tightly with his left hand at the time of the incident. Burn marks were found on the victim’s left hand, believed to be the result of an electric shock while charging the smartphone. Additionally, the tip of the charging cable was found to have melted while the smartphone was still hot. A preliminary investigation by the police found that there were no other external injuries on the victim’s body.
